Timberwolf Times - August 22, 2025

Welcome Back, Three Fires Families!

I hope your child had a great first week back. Our teachers spent time creating a safe, connected classroom community and teaching our C.A.R.E. behavior expectations: Compassionate, Accountable, Respectful, Engaged.  If you have questions or need support, please reach out at 517-548-6387 or [email protected].

Don’t Forget to Complete Your School Meal, Education Benefits, and Summer EBT Application

While the Michigan Department of Education has announced that the Michigan School Meals program, which provides free breakfast and lunch for all students, will continue through September 30, 2025, the end of the state’s fiscal year, it is not yet clear whether free meals for all students will continue beyond that date, as the Michigan School Aid Budget has not been finalized. If the program does not continue, students will begin paying for meals on October 1, 2025. Only students with an approved meal application will qualify for free or reduced-price meals at that time. To ensure your child is eligible for these benefits throughout the school year, please complete the School Meal, Education Benefits, and Summer EBT application at HowellSchools.com/Food. Completing this application not only helps families but also ensures Howell Public Schools receives important Title I and 31a funding, which directly supports students across the district.

Meet Our School Liaison Officer

Deputy Marino, our School Liaison Officer from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, will visit regularly to greet students and support our community. His presence is proactive and positive.

Meet Timber, Our Therapy Dog

Timber has completed extensive training and will support student well-being, connection, and engagement. Participation is always optional and at each child’s comfort level.  If your child has allergies or a fear of dogs, please complete this brief allergy/comfort survey so we can plan accordingly.

Counselor’s Corner — Ms. Nemeth & Mrs. Chanavier

We’re grateful to have 2 counselors this year to serve students and families:

Jeanie Nemeth — here daily, primarily Grades 2–5, [email protected]

Marie Chanavier — here Wednesdays, Thursdays, and every other Friday, primarily BK–1st,  [email protected]

Tip for Home: Build independence with small daily tasks—packing the backpack, choosing tomorrow’s outfit, setting the table. These routines boost confidence and make mornings smoother.

Lost & Found

Please label lunch boxes, water bottles, backpacks, coats, hats, and gloves. Our Lost & Found is in the cafeteria. We donate unclaimed items twice a year, so names on items make a big difference.
