District-wide Late Start Day - Tuesday, November 1st

Tuesday, November 1st is our first district-wide late start day. On this day, school starts at 10:20 AM.  Please know that our parent drop-off process on this day will start at 10:05 AM.  Do not drop your child off at school before this time.  Even though we are starting late, we will still offer breakfast for students. Transportation will be provided with routes adjusted for the later start time.  The purpose of the late start days is to allow our staff more frequent professional development opportunities.

Counselor’s Corner: Jeanie Nemeth

The Livingston Educational Service Agency has partnered with an organization called ParentGuidance.org which is committed to providing every parent with a student in Howell access to amazing opportunities, like on-demand self-help courses for supporting your child. My favorite part? Access to an individual parenting coach for up to 30 minutes a week.  And, you can message your coach and receive responses within 24 hours when you need support during difficult moments. These coaches are not school employees and have no connection to schools. Additionally, ParentGuidance.org is intended to be used by parents and will not be used in the school setting. To learn more about the coaching program, please visit https://bit.ly/3VpVsnn. To register to be connected with a free parenting coach, please visit https://bit.ly/3RZgEO8 and click "Register Today."

Halloween Parade - 10 AM, October 31st

We will hold our annual parade at 10 AM on Monday, October 31st. Weather permitting, the parade will be outside on the service drive around the school. Families who are interested in attending the parade can line the sidewalk in front of the building at 10 AM.  If the weather does not permit for an outdoor parade, we will still hold the parade inside the building.  Parents will be invited to observe the parade from the gym if the parade is moved indoors. To avoid needing to send students to the restroom to get dressed in their Halloween costume, we will be allowing students to wear a school appropriate Halloween costume to school on Monday, October 31st.  While students are not required to wear costumes on Halloween, those students who do wish to participate are reminded of the following guidelines:

  • No masks, no gore, no weapons, no exception. Costume accessories that are deemed dangerous or similar to weaponry are not permitted.
  • All costumes should maintain the integrity of our school dress code.
  • Do not wear face paint.
  • Hats/hoods are ok as long as they do not impede the student’s vision or identity.

Please understand that these guidelines are put in place to ensure the safety of all our students.  If a student’s costume is found to be inappropriate, she/he will be asked to remove the costume.

Book Fair

Our annual PTO Book Fair is now open in the Media Center from 9 AM - 3:30 PM. Your child’s teacher will be scheduling a day and time to take your child to the book fair. Our book fair will also be open during conferences on Thursday, October 27th from 4 PM - 7:30 PM and during our Trunk or Treat event this evening from 6 - 8 PM. This year, say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute!  Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy. Please know that you can still use cash. If you will be writing a check, please make it out to Three Fires PTO. If you can’t make it to the book fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.  Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with online shopping: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/threefireselementaryschool1.  The book fair will end on Friday, October 28th.

Weekend Survival Kits™

Weekend Survival Kits™ (WSK), Giving Hope to Hungry Kids, is a supplemental food program that feeds children over the weekend when food can be uncertain for some families. This program is for elementary students at this time. A typical kit will contain approximately two weekends' worth of food servings that are discreetly sent home with students every other Friday (the second and fourth Fridays of each month) throughout the school year. The kits are free to eligible children who currently qualify for free or reduced school meals (breakfast and lunch). If you are interested in participating in the WSK program, please complete this Google Form. You only need to complete one form for your family as long as all your elementary-aged children attend the same school. If your elementary-aged children attend more than one elementary school, please complete the form for each school. Please remember that there is no cost for your family to participate. Please get in touch with your child's school counselor if you have questions regarding the WSK program.

Christmas Elves Program Sponsors Needed

Each year, the Christmas Elves Program provides holiday gifts to children in need in the Brighton and Howell community. Last year, the program supported 326 children with holiday gifts and 159 families with gift cards for household items. This was made possible by the generosity of our community. As the program moves into its 15th year, they are again looking for individuals to support this great program. To sign up to purchase gifts for a child, please click here. If you would like to make a monetary donation to support the program, please click here.
