The Timberwolf Times - August 25, 2022

We hope your child is enjoying the new school year.  At Three Fires, we believe that a major component of student achievement is establishing a positive school learning environment.  We are safe, responsible, kind, and respectful.  When you interact with a Three Fires staff member, you can expect our very best in regards to courtesy and respect.  Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns this school year at 517-548-6387 or [email protected].  We look forward to working with you this year to create the best learning environment for your child.

No School Friday, August 26th

Please remember that there is no school tomorrow, Friday, August 26th.  Additionally, there is no school on Friday, September 2nd, or Monday, September 5th, for the Labor Day holiday.

Three Fires’ Therapy Dog

Three Fires has a therapy dog named Timber!  Timber completed an extensive training program to become a certified therapy dog. Research has shown that therapy dogs support psychological and academic growth while increasing social skills, self-esteem and school attendance in children.  All teachers will be able to invite Timber into their classrooms. She will be available for one-on-one time with students, and she will attend special Three Fires or Howell Public Schools events.  Please know that student interaction with Timber will be completely voluntary and will be based on student comfort level.  A safety plan will be developed and put in place for students with dog/dander allergies and/or students who have an aversion or fear of dogs. Please use the link below to complete a survey if your child has dog/dander allergies and/or an aversion or fear of dogs.  In either case, we will work closely with you to ensure your child’s safety needs are met.  Click here if your child is in need of a safety plan.  A Three Fires staff member will be in touch with you soon to discuss next steps.

Counselor’s Corner:  Ms. Nemeth

Hello! My name is Jeanie Nemeth and I am the school counselor.  I work with parents, students, and teachers through a program of many services aimed at supporting the overall student experience. Examples of services in the school counseling program, based on student need, are as follows:

  • Small groups to help children learn to regulate emotions
  • Individual sessions (limited, short-term) to help children adjust to school
  • Opportunities to practice self-regulation and mindfulness during the school day
  • Consultation with teachers to generate ideas for improving student performance
  • Conferences with parents to reflect on their child’s social and emotional progress

Look for my brief blurb in each newsletter! This week: unique after school conversation starters.

Are you looking for creative ways to talk about the school day? Try social questions (“Whom do you sit next to in class?”), best/worst questions (“What’s the best/worst thing that happened today at school?”), what you learned questions (“What are some of the rules you have to follow at school?”), and school function questions (“How did you celebrate student birthdays?”).

Lost and Found

Every year the school lost and found contains many personal items of clothing that are never claimed. These items are donated to local charities twice a year. To avoid losing your valuable clothing, parents are asked to clearly label all personal belongings with the child’s name so that lost items may be returned promptly.  We strongly recommend that you label lunch boxes, backpacks, coats, hats, and gloves.  Our “Lost and Found” area is located in the cafeteria.

PTO Updates

All PTO meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of the month at 6 PM in the media center.  There will be no December meeting.  Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, September 7th at 6 PM.  All parents are invited to attend to learn more about how you can support our PTO and school.

Reminder - All bulk spirit wear orders must be made by September 9th @ Missionimpossibleprinting.com/tfe
