Thankful for Three Fires Traditions

Special thanks to our families and staff who set up a trunk at our annual Trunk or Treat!  The students loved the creativity that was put into the trunks.  We are so thankful that our PTO moved forward with this event even though the weather was not cooperative.  Thanks to our fabulous PTO for continuing to organize these types of events.  Also, thanks to all the families who purchased and donated books to our teachers’ classroom libraries at the book fair.  These donations are much appreciated and give teachers the ability to offer our students a greater variety of books.  We are so fortunate to have such a supportive school family/community!

District-wide Canned Food Drive

This year the Student Council is working in partnership with the Howell High School Leadership Team to run our annual Fall Food Drive. This is a great opportunity for our students to work with an older student leadership group to complete a project. The food drive supports Gleaners Community Food Bank. The food drive has begun and will run through Friday, December 3.  If you would like to donate food items for this event, please send in non-perishable items with your child.

Featured Items/Weeks:

November 8th - 12th:  Mac and Cheese

November 15th - 19th: Canned Vegetables

November 22nd and 23rd:  Peanut Butter

November 29th - December 3: Anything in a Can!

Please note that these are featured items for the week.  However, any non-perishable items are accepted and greatly appreciated!  We thank you in advance!

COVID-19 Vaccination Information From LCHD

With the recent FDA authorization and CDC recommendation of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination for children ages 5-11, the Livingston County Health Department (LCHD) is now scheduling vaccination appointments for this age group. In addition to the LCHD’s clinics, several local pharmacies and pediatricians are also offering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination. While the COVID-19 vaccination is not required to attend school, once a student is fully vaccinated, they are exempt from quarantine. To learn more about the LCHD’s vaccination clinics, please visit https://bit.ly/3tHcyhN

Consider Donating Items for our Makerspace Room

The Technology classes have been hard at work earning chances to explore our new Makerspace. This space is designed to engage students with the 4Cs of 21st Century learning: Critical thinking, Collaboration, Communication and Creativity. The Makerspace is the forerunner of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) of our curriculum that has children learning hands on starting in BK and Kindergarten. The Makerspace room will be consistently utilized by students very soon and we would like to make sure it’s ready to go! This is where we could use some help from our Three Fires families. These are items we think would be great to have more of in our Makerspace. If you're cleaning out the house, gently used or recycled types of items would be great too.  Below is a list of some of the items we would love to have donated to the room:

  • Batteries

  • Beads

  • Board games

  • Buttons

  • Cereal boxes/shoe boxes

  • Coffee filters

  • Cotton balls

  • Felt/material

  • Lost puzzle pieces/pieces to board games

  • Magnetic strips

  • Mini-marshmallows to be used as building materials

  • Paper plates

  • Paper towel tubes

  • Pipe cleaners

  • Puzzles up to 300 pieces

  • Ribbon

  • Tissue paper

  • Toothpicks

  • Building blocks

Thank you for your support!  Donated items can be sent to school with your child or dropped off in our main office.   We have a collection box set up near the main office.

Sincerely, Mrs. Duguay and Mrs. Cain

Job Opportunities at Howell Public Schools and Three Fires

Howell Public Schools currently has job opportunities for paraprofessionals, substitute teachers, child care staff, food service staff, athletic coaches, bus drivers, and custodial staff. We have both full-time and part-time positions available. Positions may offer flexible schedules, and many align with the district’s calendar meaning that parents would have the same days off as their children. To view all of our open positions, please visit HowellSchools.com/jobs.  At Three Fires, we are still looking to fill Special Education Paraprofessional positions and Playground/Cafeteria Supervisor positions.

Lost and Found

This is the time of year that our lost and found area starts to grow!  Every year the school lost and found contains many personal items of clothing that are never claimed.  To avoid losing your valuable clothing, parents are asked to clearly label all personal belongings with the child’s name so that lost items may be returned promptly.  We strongly recommend that you label lunch boxes, backpacks, coats, hats, and gloves.

Success and positive mindsets don’t happen by accident. We have to cultivate it, work on it, make time for it, and nurture it. One way to do that is to intentionally reflect on things, big and small, that we are grateful for. Click here and download a gratitude calendar and work some affirmative thinking into your day. If only for a moment, this simple practice can shift your energy and your trajectory in a more positive and productive direction.
