Halloween Activities - Friday, October 30th

We will not be holding a school-wide Halloween parade this year.  Unfortunately, we are not able to have parent volunteers in the building to assist our teachers on this day.  Please know that our staff has been planning activities to help make this holiday a special and enjoyable time for our students.  To avoid needing to send students to the restroom to get dressed in their Halloween costume, we will be allowing students to wear a school appropriate Halloween costume to school on Friday, October 30th.  While students are not required to wear costumes on Halloween, those students who do wish to participate are reminded of the following guidelines:

  • No masks, no gore, no weapons, no exception.  Costume accessories that are deemed dangerous or similar to weaponry are not permitted.
  • A Halloween mask does not replace the facial covering/mask that must be worn by students during the school day
  • All costumes should maintain the integrity of our school dress code.
  • Do not wear face paint.
  • Hats/hoods are ok as long as they do not impede the student’s vision or identity.
  • Under the elementary return to learn plan we are not permitted to have parent volunteers in the building to assist with, or drop off items, during the school day.  Again, please send your child to school in his/her costume.

Please understand that these guidelines are put in place to ensure the safety of all our students.  If a student’s costume is found to be inappropriate, she/he will be asked to remove the costume.

USSDA Free Meals for Kids Extended for Entire School Year

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that it has extended several waivers regarding school meals through the end of the 2020-2021 school year. This means that all students purchasing a full breakfast or lunch at school will not be charged. The waivers will also allow the district to provide free meal kits to families with children under the age of 18. The kits will include seven days of breakfast and lunch items. Distribution of the kits will take place each Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the circle drive on the northside of Howell High School, and each Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the bus lot at Three Fires Elementary off Latson Road. Counselor’s Quick Tip - Jeanie Nemeth

October is College Month - as this is when most 4-year colleges start accepting applications for their next year’s fall class.  While there are many post-secondary options (college, career, military, trade school), this month the district is focusing on opportunities offered through attending college.  At the elementary level, this means that our students are learning about their teachers’ college experiences, learning college trivia on the morning announcements, and sporting college gear every Friday!  Later this month, students will hear a story called I Can Be Anything! - I will invite them to think about their interests and hobbies and how that can impact their choices about their future!
