The Timberwolf Times - August 14, 2020

August 14, 2020

As we prepare to welcome back our students next week, we all must work together to ensure that our students and staff remain safe. Today, Dr. Juan Marquez, the Livingston County Health Department Medical Director shared a letter with some important reminders to families.  Please take a few moments to review the letter at https://bit.ly/2DYu90l.

Teacher Assignments

Please make sure your child knows the name of his/her teacher on the first day of school.  This will assist us with getting students to their classrooms.  We know that remembering a teacher’s name will be difficult for many of our BK and Kindergarten students.  Don’t worry!  Our BK and Kindergarten teachers will share our process for ensuring our new students make it safely to their classrooms on the first day.  Teacher assignments are in Powerschool.  If you have not already done so, please take a moment to review your child's information in the PowerSchool Parent Portal and make any updates that are needed. This will ensure that we have the proper contact information for your family. You can find directions on how to do this at https://bit.ly/2OchZTy.

Reminder:  Virtual / Zoom Open House for In-Person Students - Monday August 17th, 6 - 7:30 PM

The Elementary Open House (all grade levels - Begindergarten to 5th Grade) will take place via a Zoom call this year.  During this Zoom, students and parents will have an opportunity to meet your teacher, specials teachers, and any other staff members.  These Zoom meetings will take place on August 17th from 6 - 7:30 PM.  There will be three 20-minute Zoom meetings with classes divided into alphabetical groups.  Your child’s teacher will be providing you a Zoom link and meeting time via your registered email address before 12 PM on Monday, August 17th.  If you do not receive a Zoom link by then, please call our main office for support at 517-548-6387.  If you cannot make your assigned alphabetical time, please attend a Zoom meeting that works best for your schedule.  This will ensure your ability to meet with all of your students’ teachers if you have multiple children in one school.

Drop Off and Pick Procedures and 20/21 Pick-up Pass

By now, you should have received your 20/21 pick-up pass via mail.  Don’t forget that you will need your family pick-up pass when you pick up your child.  If you still have not received the pick-up pass in the mail, please call our main office on Monday at 517-548-6387.  If you have not had a chance, please make sure you review our Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures if you drive your child to and from school.  Click here to review the procedures.  The significant changes are:

  • You will no longer be able to drop your child off before 8:40 a.m.
  • You will only use the kiss-n-go lane when dropping off your child.
  • You will no longer be able to park and walk your child into the building.
  • You must remain in your car during drop off.
  • You will no longer be able to pick up your child outside of your car at the end of the day near the multipurpose room exterior door.
  • You must remain in your car during pick up.

At the start of any school year, school traffic is challenging, and we appreciate and thank you for your patience as we work to make our drop off and pick up procedures safe and efficient.  We do anticipate long lines the first week of school.  Please do not pass cars to bypass these lines to access the parking lot.

Several Buses Exiting via Crooked Lake Road

For safety reasons, we will continue to have several school buses exiting the visitor parking lot to Crooked Lake Road.  When it is time for the buses to enter into the visitor parking lot, the Kiss-N-Go lane will be stopped for a few minutes.

Medications

Please do not send your child to school with medication.  All medication needs to be dropped off by parents in the main office.  The medication forms can be found online.  Please remember the form needs to be filled out by your family physician. To access the Permission Form for Prescribed Medication and All Over-the-Counter Medication, please click here.

School Liaison Officer

Once again, Three Fires will be supported by Deputy Bill Schuster from the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.  Please do not be alarmed when you see a patrol car in our lot.  Deputy Schuster will be visiting often to greet students and provide “law related” education programs.  In addition to 911, he will be our primary contact for emergency support services.

Reusable Water Bottles

Our drinking fountains will not be accessible until further notice.  We are asking all parents to send their child to school each day with a clearly marked (child’s first and last name) reusable water bottle for individual student use.

Lost and Found

Every year the school lost and found contains many personal items of clothing that are never claimed. These items are donated to local charities twice a year. To avoid losing your valuable clothing, parents are asked to clearly label all personal belongings with the child’s name so that lost items may be returned promptly.  We strongly recommend that you label lunch boxes, backpacks, coats, hats, and gloves.  Our “Lost and Found” area is located in the cafeteria.

Back to School Webpage

To help create a seamless transition into the new school year, the district has created a Back to School webpage. This webpage contains important dates and information relating to the 2020-2021 school year. Please visit the webpage at HowellSchools.com/RTS.
