Retrieving Personal Items From Our School and 5th Grade Clap Out!
Student personal belongings that were left in desks and lockers when schools were closed by the Governor in March have been collected and placed in plastic bags with each student’s name. We are planning for drive-through pick-up of these items during the week of June 1. During this drive-through you can also drop off any Three Fires Elementary materials that are at home. For the safety of all involved please follow these guidelines:
- If you or an immediate family member are not feeling well or have any symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home.
- Families will ENTER Three Fires through the BUS LOT off of Latson Road, drive alongside the building for pick up, and EXIT from the FRONT PARKING LOT onto Crooked Lake Road. This will be a ONE WAY flow of traffic. Please follow the signs and directions from the staff present.
- Staff members on campus will be equipped with proper PPE and place one family’s items per sanitized table. An adult will be invited to exit his/her vehicle to retrieve your child’s items on the table.
- Please return any Three Fires materials that are at home in a labeled bag with your child’s FIRST AND LAST NAME as well as CURRENT GRADE and TEACHERS Name.
- Below is a list of items we would like returned:
- TFE Library Books
- Books from teacher’s classroom libraries
- Any textbooks from school
- 5th Grade Safety Belts
- Book/Homework Bags
- NOTE: We WILL NOT be collecting district-issued iPads and Chromebooks at this time.
Pick up/drop off times will be staggered to ensure we are able to get families through the pick up in a timely manner. Please do your best to come at the time listed below. Begindergarten/Kindergarten and New Student Registration
While our Registration Office is currently closed, you may still register incoming begindergarten and kindergarten students online at HowellSchools.com/KDG. Additionally, new students can be enrolled at HowellSchools.com/Enroll. On these sites, you can complete all of the registration forms. When our Registration Office re-opens, we will work to collect the documents required to complete the registration process.
Bond Work is Starting
Many of the projects funded by the 2019 Capital and Security Bond are beginning at our school and around the district. This summer, our school is set to receive a new secure entrance and carpeting in our first floor classrooms and 1st floor hallways. These projects were outlined in the bond proposal. Per state law, bond dollars cannot be used to cover normal district operations, such as employee salaries.

Budget Update
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the State of Michigan has experienced a drastic drop in sales tax and income tax revenues. These two revenue streams make up 66% of the School Aid Fund (the fund which provides the majority of school funding in Michigan). Due to this all K-12 public schools in Michigan are facing significant reductions to their per-pupil funding. The district is working on a website to share information about its budgeting process and is committed to being open and transparent during this time. The link to the website will be shared in one of Superintendent MacGregor’s updates.
