I hope your child has enjoyed his or her first 8 days of school!  At Three Fires, we believe that a major component of student achievement is establishing a positive school learning environment.  We are safe, responsible, kind, and respectful. Drop Off Updates and Reminders 

Starting on Monday, September 9th parents and visitors will no longer be able to walk students to their classrooms in the morning.  Please say your goodbyes near the front entrance or in the cafeteria. This change is part of our new procedures to ensure the safety of our students with our new visitor management system.  Also, please do not drop your child off at school before 8:30 AM. We do not have supervision available before that time.  Thank you in advance for your understanding and support.    

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Team 

Our Three Fires Elementary Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team creates school-wide initiatives to help encourage great behavior!  Some of the work we have done in the past includes creating School-Wide Behavior Expectations, sponsoring a poster and video contest to encourage good choices, providing assemblies and other opportunities for social-emotional learning, as well as celebrating meeting school-wide Wolf Paw goals with PTO provided popcorn.  We also analyze data to determine and implement Multi-Tier Systems of Supports (MTSS) and continue to work to improve our processes in this area. Typically, the team meets at 7:45 am once a month. Contact our Student Services Advisor, Angie Tyrpak if you would like to serve on this team. We’d love for you to join us! PTO Updates/Reminders  

Special thank you to our PTO for moving forward with our upper el playground addition.  With your donations and support over the years, our PTO was able to expand the playground and add two new structures (hoopla swing and chinning and turn bars).  There are plans to add another large structure in the near future!  Our first PTO meeting is Monday, September 9th at 7 PM in the Media Center.  All parents are invited to attend. Art News:  Mrs. Wilkens   

A newsletter went home in your student’s take home folder containing important information regarding the Annual Art Show (April/May), Artsonia (online Student Art Museum) and recycling for Super Free Art Day.  Just a reminder if you would like your student to have an 'online Student Art Museum' page with Artsonia fill out the reverse side of the Art Newsletter and send in with your child. LOC Federal Credit Union Partnership  

Three Fires will continue to partner with LOC Federal Credit Union to operate a student-run credit union at Three Fires.  This unique program will consist of a full-service LOC branch inside Three Fires, and it is just like a real credit union, with one exception – the employees are fifth grade students!  Fifth graders must apply and interview for their positions at the credit union. Not only does this program teach valuable skills to the students working the credit union, but it also gives students of all grade levels the chance to participate by opening accounts and saving money. This is a great opportunity for your child to learn and practice basic financial management and banking skills.  5th grade students will learn more about this opportunity on September 11th.  

Pathways to Potential Partnership:  Mrs. Conyers 

Three Fires Elementary is a partner with the Pathways to Potential program. This program can aid with family food, clothing, childcare, and medical support.  As well as heating, electric, or propane services as needed in the wintry months. The Three Fires Elementary Success Coach has an office located in the building to give individualized attention and assist students in being successful in school by addressing attendance concerns. This includes helping families in navigating the many resources that Livingston County has to offer, helping with the application process for programs, processing applications for all DHHS assistance programs and more. As we embark on a new academic year, we would like to empower you and your family for success not only now, but also in the future.  Saving for your child’s education can start as early as Kindergarten! Two ways you can save for your child’s education are through MET (Michigan Education Trust) and MESP (Michigan Education Savings Program).  To further assist you in learning about these programs click here.   

Howell Cross Country - Elementary Cross Country Meet

On Wednesday, September 25, the Howell Cross Country program will host its second annual district-wide Elementary Cross Country Meet. The course will cover a one-mile portion of the middle school cross country course at Highlander Way Middle School. The event is open to all Howell elementary students in grades kindergarten through fifth. Elementary runners will be responsible for their transportation to Highlander Way on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. The girl's race will start at 5:15 p.m. and the boy's race will begin at 5:30 p.m. Runners will be allowed to warm up on the course at 4:55 p.m. To learn more about the event or to register your child, please visit https://forms.gle/oGofkHCbQWqFQsPs6. 

Highlander Reading Express Books

If your child still has books that were checked out from the Highlander Reading Express over the summer, please have them return the books to our main office. Additionally, if your child received all nine stamps in their Reading Passport this summer, please have them write their name, grade, and school on the front of the Reading Passport and turn it in to our main office. The district is working on purchasing the final prize for students who earned all nine stamps, and they need an accurate number.  

Julianna's Wishes Miles for Smiles Kids Fun Run

On Saturday, September 28 Julianna's Wishes, a 501c3 non-profit charity that was created in honor of Julianna Ward-Brown, a Howell High School student who passed away, will hold its second annual Miles for Smilies 5/10K run/walk. New this year, the event will include a one-mile kids’ fun run. Howell High School in partnership with Julianna's Wishes will provide a prize for the classroom from each elementary school that has the most participants in the kids’ fun run. The Miles for Smiles event is to celebrate and honor the lives of children that we have lost too soon. The proceeds from the event will support scholarships for Howell High School seniors and to help fund a Celebration of Life Memorial Garden at the Howell Carnegie Library.
