The Timberwolf Times - April 21, 2023

#PackPride

On Friday, April 12th, we held our first Project Unified Kickball Event!  The students participated in kickball, cheerleading, jenga and enjoyed a cold popsicle. Our staff is working hard this year to put on several of these types of events.  The purpose of our Project Unified initiative is to bring youth with and without disabilities together through education, sports, and related initiatives that promote acceptance, respect and human dignity for all students.  In May, our students will be competing against students from Challenger Elementary in a corn hole tournament.

We are grateful for them not only this week, but also every day of the year.

M-STEP Calendar

This spring, Michigan is administering its required state assessment to all 3rd- 5th graders.  The test is called M-STEP - Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress.  The Three Fires in-person M-STEP testing schedule is as follows:

5th Grade:  April 24th, 25th, 27th, and May 1st

4th Grade:  May 3rd, 4th, 8th, and 9th

Please mark these dates on your calendar.  We are giving parents the testing schedule so that appointments, vacations, etc. can be scheduled around these dates as much as possible. We encourage you to help your student take this seriously and rest well the night before.

District-wide Late Start Day - Tuesday, May 2nd

Tuesday, May 2nd is our final district-wide late start day. On this day, school starts at 10:20 AM.  Please know that our parent drop-off process on this day will start at 10:05 AM.  Do not drop your child off at school before this time.  Even though we are starting late, we will still offer breakfast for students. Transportation will be provided with routes adjusted for the later start time.  The purpose of the late start days is to allow our staff more frequent professional development opportunities.

Counselor’s Corner: Jeanie Nemeth

As we pull together our updated summer resources for families (to be shared out in May), we wanted to give you a sneak peek on two amazing resources for Howell families!  The first resource is Mrs. Weber’s Neighborhood. Lauren Weber is a Howell parent that has developed a wildly helpful blog focusing on family, fun, food, events, and travel in and around Livingston County. You can also follow her on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for lots of inspiring ideas!  She’s also a parent liaison with the Livingston County Parent Coalition, so she has access to a lot of local resources and information.  The second is the Howell Carnegie District Library! All Howell Public Schools students have special access to their online resources (the library barcode number is the student ID number and the PIN is 1234). Go to howelllibrary.org, click on “Explore,” then “Homework Help,” and explore all the fun activities and programs.  More ideas will be coming soon!
